New patient appointments generally last up to 2-3 hours, and you should try to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your appointment to complete any necessary paperwork. New appointments typically consist of an interview session with the physician, followed by any necessary allergy or asthma testing, then a review of the test results, along with recommendations by the physician.

In preparation for your appointment, there are several important preliminary steps that should be completed prior to your arrival. Additionally, there are a few requirements that are necessary to insure a thorough and timely allergic workup. The following is a list of items that should be brought with you to your appointment:

  • Updated insurance card
  • Proof of identity (driver’s license, passport)
  • Completed pre-visit questionnaire
  • Referral sheet (if required)

In addition, please stop all antihistamines (Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc.) at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. It is unnecessary to stop nasal sprays, any asthma medication, antibiotics or steroids, as these do not interfere with allergy testing. Please be aware that allergy testing may not be performed if you are currently taking a beta-blocker for heart disease. In some cases, blood tests or xrays may be required. A letter reviewing the results and recommendations will be sent to you and your primary care physician soon after the appointment. Other information may be given out during the office visit. If you must reschedule for any reason, please try to do so as early as possible for the convenience of other patients.
